ERS Case Studies for Emergency Restoration

Discover real world Emergency Restoration System projects covering disaster recovery, transmission line restoration, planned maintenance and grid modernization across India.

Live-line restoration with an ERS jumper

Challenge
Keep a corridor energised while bridging between structures, with no full shutdown available on an already critical line. The 1,800 metre stretch ran through a dense residential and commercial market in Sector 2, Vaishali with 11 kV & 33 kV lines crossing beneath and a rebuild that would otherwise have needed a 10 day outage.
Approach
HTSE erected three 30m ERS Towers and strung the line live from the existing tower onto the ERS and between the two ERS Towers using a composite insulated crossarm as the jumper to transfer the load safely between structures.
Result
The bypass was energised in about three and a half hours, with only a two-and-a-half-hour distribution shutdown for stringing. The line stayed in service without customers losing supply, and the structure held through a severe hailstorm without damage.

400 kV bypass across a flyover, river & highway

Challenge
A stalled 400 kV Atur-Indrapuram corridor was held up by a crossing line where the route spanned a flyover, the Hindon river and a national highway and then met stormy winds after erection. Roughly 98% of the line and its substation sat idle, delaying 580 MW of evacuation.
Approach
HTSE threaded a compact ERS bypass between the flyover and the river across four spans, sequencing the stringing so highway traffic never had to stop.
Result
The line was strung without disrupting highway traffic for a single minute, and the structure held through stormy winds with zero damage, freeing a 580 MW corridor that had been stranded for months.

400 kV quad double circuit with no road access

Challenge
No road to site, soil unfit for anchoring, a river to cross and cultivated land all around, with a full double-circuit load to carry.
Approach
Materials were moved by country boat; HTSE designed modular supports and special anchors for the site, kept the conductor clear of the river with water cans and configured two ERS Towers as a double circuit on a mid-river sand dune.

What clients say

Feedback from the utilities and EPCs we've restored lines for.

HTSE had a bypass energised while we were still assessing the damage. Their crew reached a site our own trucks couldn't, and the line was back the same week.
Superintending Engineer
State Transmission Utility
We reconductored a critical 400 kV corridor without the extended shutdown we'd feared. The ERS bypass carried the load exactly as promised — no surprises.
Project Manager
Transmission EPC Contractor
What stood out was the safety and the engineering. Certified structures, trained linemen, and towers that held through a storm without a scratch.
